Read Aloud Day

Writer and cartoonist Marc Tyler Nobleman reads his book “Boys of Steel – The Creators of Superman”  to a sixth grade class for Read Aloud Day 2008.

Over 600 volunteers joined SVA to share the joy of reading with every pre-kindergarten through 6th grade class in the Bridgeport Public Schools on October 22, 2009.  SVA provided the engaging children’s books which were read to the students and then donated to the classroom libraries.  Many volunteers found the experience so rewarding that they have chosen to continue volunteering with our students as ongoing readers, tutors and mentors.

Read Aloud Day 2009 was made possible through the generosity of our sponsors:  AltruShare Securities, LLC, Fairfield University, Gexpro, NewCity Foundation, Océ North America, Document Printing Systems, People’s United Bank and the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County.

Read Aloud Day 2010 will mark the 25th anniversary of this annual event.  Please call the School Volunteer Association or check our website for more information as we get closer to the start of the 2010 - 2011 school year.
